With this connector/harness pair and the Hands free kit of your choice you can have the following functionality in your BMW:  your phone will mute the car stereo and use the cars built in speakers to play the callers voice.  You will hear the tones from pressing the phone’s buttons with the car stereo playing until you hit send, etc.  This kit will also allow use of the BMW built in microphone if you wish (depending on phone type and is somewhat rare).  The phone interface works even if the radio is off but not if the car is turned off.  You may wish to add an antenna on the car (not included nor discussed in this kit).  The car kit interface unit it typically mounted under the armrest in the console (depends on how large the interface kit is).  Pictured above is a custom mount that is easy to install (we can help, too).  There are also a number of Pro-fit and Pro-clip type mounts for this car readily available at your local cell phone installer and most require no drilling or extra screws into your car.  Unfortunately the phone buttons on the steering wheel are not supported for this application.  Many customers take this interface with them to the installer and have their phone kit professionally installed.
